Programme for October 2013 to March 2014

13th October

Meet at Hound Tor Car Park Grid Ref. SX73970 79195. Start at noon for a 5 mile (approx) walk through a medieval village, passing a quarry and an old railway. Onwards across open moorland to Leighon Farm to complete a circular walk back to Hound Tor.

Meet for car share at Sowton park and ride (small car park on right of main car park) at 11.00 am.

27th October

Crediton. Meet for a prompt 1.30 pm start at the entrance to the Car Park in St Saviors Way (Sign posted off the main road  'P for 190 cars') Its £1.10 for 5 hours but there are many road side places that are restriction free on Sunday, (Town Park road is one, just past the car park turn left) The walk is 6.60 miles and runs north from Crediton to West Sandford then south to Moorlake and returning east then north to the car park. There are two or three steep ascents/descents but none particularly long. These climbs afford good views across rolling hills.

3rd November

A guided bird watching cruise on the River Exe leaving from Exmouth's Stuart Line marina at 12.15 pm. Be there by 12.00 pm at the latest to meet (and ensure you get a good seat).

Ideal for those interested in our feathered friends! Suitable for beginners through to experts, all you need is your own binoculars. Lasting roughly 3 hours, these cruises include a full commentary from an ornithologist throughout the cruise on the species, habitat and behaviours of the thousands of birds wintering on the Exe Estuary and East Devon Coast. The vessel has inside and outside seating with bar (limited refreshments so you might prefer to bring your own lunch) and toilets on board.

Advanced booking is essential on all of these cruises as they are very popular. You will need to book early, Debbie suggests by October 15th. Tickets cost £10 and can be booked on 01395 222144 or at www.stuartlinecruises.co.uk. Please let leaders know by the day before that you are coming.

Please be aware tickets need to be paid for at the time of booking and are non-refundable.

10th November

11am start. Park at Abbotsbury Castle car-park (OS 558 862) just off the B3157 Bridport to Abbotsbury road. 4 miles on the South Dorset Ridgeway to Hardy Monument, then 3 miles down to Abbotsbury for tea and cakes. We can either take a short ride on the bus (4pm) back to the start, or strategically place cars in all the right places. We can decide on the day. Car-share probably a good idea, make your own arrangements.

The walk should take 2 to 2½ hours so could be around 4 miles in length.

Meet there (should be free on Sunday) for a prompt 1 pm start. We will not be waiting for any late-comers.

This will most likely be a two-centre treasure hunt and transport will be needed between venues. Therefore treasure hunters might want to travel in their teams to avoid the risk of any possible GCHQ/PRISM activity

Car Share if required. Meet at Sowton park and ride.

2nd February
